Although I was initially enthusiastic about the idea, because of my lack of knowledge about how to get my music noticed and other musicians to work with me, I started to believe they may be right.

And anyone who understands or has experienced this knows that when you start to inject even just a tiny bit of doubt, you start to sabotage yourself.

Anyway, to cut right to the chase, I was swamped in self-doubt and self-sabotage for at least six months. I really didn't do anything in my music career.

I found it difficult to meet and mingle with musicians, I found it difficult to put together a band and rehearse on a regular basis. I found it difficult to start looking for gigs because I didn't really know how to and whether I'd be doing it the "right" way. Ultimately I recorded nothing and made no money.

Six months down the line, I knew that I now needed to find a way to make money as I was running out of it. It was either that I got a job or got up and did something.

I have always hated the idea of a job. The most I have worked in a job is one month. The options were clear - get a job or start working towards my goal and making money with my music.

Of course, when you're presented with such a dilemma, it's just as scary as it is exciting that you are pushed to get up and take action.

And that's what I did.

Here is exactly what I did:

At the same time I was thinking all of this, I got a book from a friend called "How To Win Friends And Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. I read this book several times over and by putting into practice what I read I started to grow in confidence to talk to and share with people my passion.

I also started to get clear about what it is that I wanted to do for myself, the kind of music I wanted to play, where I wanted to perform and what I wanted to experience.

As I started to play and perform and take up all the opportunities that came to me, I started making money and more importantly to me I started to meet, mingle and network with some huge musicians in the area. For me, that was gold.

What I experienced in the early days - the opportunities to jam and play with some big musicians such as Jamelia and at big corporate and government events gave me a lot of confidence and belief about myself.

I was doing well. Or so I thought at the time. I was playing a few gigs every month. I was earning more money than I had before so at the time it was very exciting.

Until I met Garry J. - a guitarist who I performed with several times. He gave me a few "insights" that really opened my eyes to the potential just waiting for me (and you).

A few simple changes I made were responsible for increasing my music income beyond a mere few hundred dollars a month to pushing over four figures. That means $2k to $5,000 and well beyond each month.
